Today we want to share with you our men's collection of soap. We indeed have selected soaps, which are perfect for guys. And when you know a good guy, why not treat him well?!

First of all we want to say, that guys are welcome to use ALL of our soaps. Our lovely Mango Dreamland bars and all of the other soapscan be used by guys and gals. However, we have 4 soaps, which are especially great for guys.

We currently have 3 soaps in our collection, which can especially be used by guys for their slightly male smells. A 4th soap for men will be in stock on the 2nd December. Let us give you a brief review of the men's soaps:

1. Azura Lagoon

This soap is perfect for guys with its fresh and strong aquatic smell. This soap is for guys who go all in for the fresh and aquatic smells. It stands for absolute freshness and wakes your guy up instantly in the morning if you want that haha :-D With fresh olive oil and cocoa seed butter, this soap cleanses the skin in the most gentle way.

2. Cocoa Soulspice

This soap is not only perfect for the winter but can also be used by guys for its warm and strong flavours. For guys, that like warm and slightly spicy perfumes, this is their go to soap. With orange patchouli and vanilla it revives the senses and cleanses your guys' skin silky smooth.

3. California Dreamin 

Our California Dreamin bars are also perfect for guys due to their magical smell. Guys, who like classy, slightly warm and sophisticated perfumes will like these bars. The soap bars smell sophisticated and mezmerizing at the same time. With fresh olive oil and vitamin E, it rejuvenates your guys skin and cleanses it in the smoothest way. 

4. OUR SECRET SOAP from the XMAS collection

We cannot say much yet, but this amazing soap radiates warmth and youth with a smooth and slightly sweet coffee smell mixed with orange. It is perfect for guys, who like warm perfumes. The soap will be released this upcoming week :-

Today we are publishing a very special blogpost, that is dear to our heart <3 

It is a BODY TALK about how to feel great in your own beautiful unique body.

We were inspired by pictures of the women of the Golden 20s and how they celebrated their bodies and their lifes. This spirit is perfectly shown in old photographs of the roaring 20s. Looking at these photographs, we started to wonder: What thinking did these women have, that us women are missing nowadays?

Today there is so much concern and sensibility about our bodies and how something is WRONG with them. When did the positive body thinking shift to become so hyper critical?

In this blogpost we want to lign out some key thoughts that the Women of the Golden 20s had, and how we can apply them into our lifes today. Also we have 5 tips on how to feel great in you own beautiful unique body. 

The Spirit of the Women of the Golden 20s

I don't know if I realized as soon as I began seeing them that they represented the wave of the future, but I do know I was drawn to them. The women of the Golden 20s were FREE and full of SELF EXPRESSION. After the strong societal structures of the Victorian times, the women of the Golden 20s not only freed themselves in areas such as education, politics and working life, but also in fashion, lifestyle and self image. While before, they had to fit tight corsetts, have long feminine hair and look pretty for their husbands, they could now wear their hair boyish short, wear casual clothes and engage in pleasures that were priorly restricted and only for men.

The women of the Golden 20s celebrated their freedom and independence and were not afraid to show their bodies. They did not give a flying f?ck about societal expectations. The effects of this thinking were mesmerizing: the photographs show women who are feeling themselves, who are strong at their core, who don't feel sorry for anything, who enjoy their lives and being themselves. - NO LIMITING THOUGHTS INVOLVED

Although we nowadays have to deal with less limitations in education and work life than these women, we still limit ourselves in our thinking of beauty. We finally need to start feeling ourselves and our bodies like those women do. Radiate freedom, happiness, and self- confidence by expressing ourselves with our unique bodies.

WHERE THERE ARE NO LIMITING THOUGHTS, THERE'S FREEDOM.

Here are 5 tips for how to feel great in our own, beautiful, unique bodies

1. Realise that your body works to serve you 24/7 

It is time to give a huge credit to your body. Your body first of all is a wonder in itself. It is a power system, that works 24/7 to be the best loving home for your mind and soul. Every cell in your body renews itself regularly for you to be alive and healthy. Your body is programmed to keep you healthy without you even telling it to do so. 

Realising this, gives you absolute NO REASON to ever hate your body. Now take a moment of deep gratefulness and give credit to your body being an absolute loving power system. Your body is an AMAZING miracle.

2. Look at art displaying women and their unique body types

This one is an interesting one. Art displaying women throughout history sets your expectations right again for the definition of beauty. You will see, that art of women and their bodies usually celebrates the beautiful body as a whole and its own unique glory. The more pictures you look at, the more you will see the beauty in the different unique beauty shapes and the beauty of women in general <3 

You will feel proud of being part of the gender, that comes in the most beautiful shapes.

3. Train yourself to "judge" women bodies by being uniquely beautiful and perfect in their own way

First off: We should not judge anyways! BUT until we stop judging bodies, we can start with an easier step: The step of judging bodies by being beautiful and perfect in their own, unique way. Every body with its unique beautiful traits is perfect in its own way. That is why there is no need to compare ourselves to others. Every body displays its own perfection.

4. Start a weekly smile at yourself and gratefulness routine

Once per week (atleast), look at yourself in the mirror and smile at yourself, blow kisses, wink at yourself and recognize 3 unique features that you love about your body. Still feel weird about blowing kisses at yourself in the mirror? Try it, it will instantly make you smile ;-D

Write the 3 features down and feel grateful about them. If you repeat this every week and come up with 3 new features every week, they will add up and you realise how many damn beautiful traits you have.

5. Train, treat and feel your body

Now, that we covered the mind activities, we come to the physical part. Schedule time to train and work your beautiful body by doing any sports and movement that you like, may it be swimming, running, dancing, yoga or any other activity that you love.

Your body loves any kind of movement. It was built for that. Also treat your body with any relaxation techniques such as aroma therapy showers, massages, moisturizing etc. Do good for your body and finally feel it. Connecting to your body and its signals instantly improves your feeling of self.

Take some time every week to meditate or stretch and feel how your body feels, whether you have tense areas, aking muscles. Become more sensitive to your body and listen to its signals. In times of reduced body activity in our jobs, we should not forget to allow our bodies to give us signals about how we feel.

The development of this change in our thinking was actually established in the 1970s when big corporates wanted to push sales for their cheaper liquid soaps. Our soaps have frequently been compared to the soaps of the store Lush. We get it, Lush also sells soaps, Lush also produces cruelty free and vegan. But, there ARE differences between the products of Lush and our products.

So, today we would like to present you with a brief and honest comparison between our Levity Parlour products and the Lush products. The comparison categories are entered into a table, to make the reading more brief for you guys. The sources used for this comparison were our Levity Parlour company info, the LUSH website, and an articles about LUSH products linked in the bottom. Please keep in mind, that we chose our own criterria for comparison. Of course you can compare companies in a million ways.

Let's get right into it:

LUSH hides palmoil in its soaps under terms such as: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate & Sodium Stearate, which are in more than 90%  of the soaps.
Plastic Free	YES	NO	Levity Parlour commits to packaging its products with plastic free packaging only.  Lush does package many products in paper, metal tins, with their "naked" packaging, however, some products  are packaged in plastic containers. These containers can be returned to the store.
Cruelty Free	YES	YES	Animal Testing for Cosmetic Products is forbidden in the EU and both Levity Parlour and LUSH are thus cruelty free.
Fair trade	YES	YES	Levity Parlour soaps only contain fair traded ingredients, such as fair traded shea butter and coconut milk. LUSH buys ingredients fair trade (as they mention).
Paraben free	YES	NO	Levity Parlour Soaps are strictly Paraben free. Levity Parlour would rather use more expensive ingredients than to use parabens. LUSH products contain Methylparabens and Propylparabens. Parabens are used to conserve skin products and are said to cause hormonal changes affecting reproduction and maybe even cancer.
Synthetic and Chemical free	YES	NO	Levity Parlour products do not contain any synthetics or chemicals, because they considerably hurt the natural skin layer and make it more sensitive. In fact, the supplier of the Levity Parlour soaps successfully developped them for Neurodermitis treatment.  LUSH products are PACKED with chemicals. That is a fact. They contain chemical foaming agents, harsh colour dyes, harsh preservatives, and synthetic unnatural fragrances.

 

Summary

Let's sum this table up. Of course, you can compare brands in many different ways. We chose a few company and brand related, as well as product related categories.

The purpose of this comparison was not to completely slam LUSH, and that is why we also would not announce a winner of the two. Levity Parlour and LUSH are simply 2 brands making different decisions on their products and how they want to impact the planet and their customers.

Overall, we want to give LUSH credit for buying fair-trade ingredients, producing locally and by hand, as well as being vegetarian. However, we do want to emphasize, that ingredient-wise, the LUSH products are not that green and natural. They do contain chemicals and non- ecofriendly ingredients, that severly hurt our planet. So all in all, LUSH incorporates some usefull values in the ways of production and ethical buying, however ingredient-wise, the products are not that great.Please be aware, that the information about fair trade etc. that Lush presents on its website can still be embellished for Marketing purposes. LUSH, like many other companies is very smart in taking the attention away from its bad ingredients.

Levity Parlour is a much smaller company and a newcomer on the block. We do not have our own stores. However, we believe in creating all-green products, that not only contain social values like handmade local production, fair trade buying, and cruelty free policies, BUT that ESPECIALLY contain green and natural, planet friendly ingredients. This is where the main difference lies between Levity Parlour and LUSH: the fact, that our products contain fully green andd planet and skin friendly ingredients.

We really hope, that this blogpost gave you some valuable insights into the differences between our company and LUSH. By now you know, that our products still contain greener and skin friendlier, natural ingredients than the products of LUSH.

Today we want to share with you 6 ways to store our bar soaps and apply them to your skin. Especially fort he facial soaps in our assortment, we often got the question: „How do I apply it to the skin?“ We thought, that a blogpost about this topic could be helpful and therefore want to share this one with you guys today :-)

Therefore we present 3 ways on how to store our bar soaps and 3 ways to apply them to your skin.

Ways to store your soaps:

1. The classic soap dish (made from wood or metal)

Of course we start with the classic soap dish. Soap dishes are the regular way to store soaps. What is important here, is that you choose a soap dish, that includes enables the soap to dry properly. For example soap dishes that are handing on the wall are perfect, or soap dishes that have a „Gitter“ where the water can rinse off.  See some perfect soap dishes here:

 

2. The innovative soap magnet

A very innovative way of storing your soap. The soap magnet is an appliance, that you hang on the wall and it has 2 magnets. One on the appliance and the other you stick into the soap. You can then easily hand the soap on the magnet appliance when you want it to dry. Make sure the appliance is in a place where no water runs over it.

 

3. The soap rope and or soap bag

Yay! The soap rope and soap bag are another two nice ideas for you to store your soap. Jus screw a hole in your soap and hang it on the rope or just put it in the bag. The soap on the rope/in the bag can be hung onto a hook on the bathroom or shower wall. This way the soap can perfectly dry up and stay in a good condition. Small update: Where are actually looking into pretty ropes that we can give you guys along with your order.

 

Ways to apply our soaps to your skin:

1. Classic: with your two gorgeous hands (haha)

Okay the first way is classic again: Just make the soap wet with your hands and rub it until the creamy foam can be applied to your skin with your hands. Some people really prefer to apply our bar soaps with their hands, because they like feeling the bar soap with its amazing scent.

2. The natural sponge

Another great way to apply bar soap to your skin is to make it wet and then rub it onto a sponge. This is especially great for applying soap to your body in the shower. The creamy soap foams extra much and can cleanse your skin in the best way possible.

3. The cleansing brush

A brilliant way to apply soap to especially your facial skin is with the help of a cleansing brush. Just make the soap wet and rub it over the brush until the brush is foamy enough. Then apply the brush to your skin and deep cleanse it with the best ingredients of your soap. Also a note on this: We are planning a give away of free brushes soon, so stay tuned!!! ;-)

Today, we want to share with you a brief overview of palm oil, its effects on us and the environment and also about the brands that use palm oil for their soaps.

Often people might think: What's the fuzz about palm oil?! We hope to answer this in a brief way right here.

What is Palm Oil?

According to http://www.saynotopalmoil.com, palm oil is an "a type of edible vegetable oil that is derived from the palm fruit, grown on the African oil palm tree. Today, palm oil is grown throughout Africa, Asia, North America, and South America, with 85% of all palm oil globally produced and exported from Indonesia and Malaysia; but most of the time not using sustainable measures" www.saynotopalmoil.com

To enable palmoil production, producers clear natural rain forest and set up the plantations there.

A powerful fact here: Every HOUR, a surface of 300 football fields of natural rainforest, is cleared for palmoil production.

Palmoil is found in 40-50% of household products such as baked goods, toothpaste, shampoo, icecream, cosmetics and SOAP.

What are the effects of palm oil production?

The palm oil industry is linked to major issues such as:

1. destructive deforestation

2. habitat degradation

3. climate change

4. animal cruelty, and even

5. indigenous rights abuse

Coming back to the fact, that every hour, a surface of 300 football fields of natural rainforest, is cleared for palmoil production, we can convert this into: Every hour, natural rainforest is burnt, many animal species die and lose their "home" and even  indigenous tribes have to leave their homes without being consulted. And all of this, with a huge impact on the environment.

Through palmoil production, Indonesia has become the 3rd highest greenhouse gas emitter in the world.

Among the many dying species are: the orangutan, the pygmy elephant, the sumatran tiger and the sumatran rhinoceros. 

The natural habitats of indigenous Indonesian tribes are sold by the government to big corporations and the people that lose their land, often are forced into badly or unpaid plantation labor, especially child labor.

So why do big corporations still use palmoil if the production of it has multiple horrendous effects? Because it's cheap! 

 

Which brands use palmoil for their soaps?

Companies often make it hard for us consumers to know, whether they use palmoil. Here is a list of the many terms, that brands use for palmoil, so if you see one of these terms on a product, it most definitely contains palmoil:

Key Terms for Palmoil on Ingredients List:

"Vegetable Oil, Vegetable Fat, Palm Kernel, Palm Kernel Oil, Palm Fruit Oil, Palmate, Palmitate, Palmolein, Glyceryl, Stearate, Stearic Acid, Elaeis Guineensis, Palmitic Acid, Palm Stearine, Palmitoyl Oxostearamide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-3, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Kernelate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Lauryl Lactylate/Sulphate, Hyrated Palm Glycerides, Etyl Palmitate, Octyl Palmitate, Palmityl Alcohol" 

Now comes the interesting part: Which brands/soaps use and contain palmoil? 

I just picked out some surprising products, list will be extended.

The Body Shop: All natural looking but certainly not eco-friendly

 

 

RITUALS: The Ritual of Ayurveda Hand Wash: Containing Palmoil

LUSH: containing Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, which can be translated into palm oil

Nivea: Advertising with smooth skin care, but containing palm oil and thus contributing to desastrous palm oil production

 

 

Dove: Also contains palmoil- also contributes to the killing of animal lives and indigenous tribes losing their homes
